Hey, Girlfriend!

❀ Making the World a Brighter Place One Friendship at a Time

If your jeans are too long, you have a few choices on how to wear them.

They can be cuffed, but a cuff can emphasize short legs, especially if worn with flat shoes.

They can be worn too long, but the wearer will look unkempt.

The extra length can be turned under and hemmed, but distressed jeans will lose their original hem and the wearer will look uncool.

If you decide to hem your jeans with a topstitch, take care to match the thread used for topstitching elsewhere on your jeans.  The thread on the right is made to match typical gold topstitching on denim.

I recently pilfered pictures from my mother’s photo albums.  I was looking for beach images for the Girlfriend Getaway post.

Regretfully, I raided her albums when I was a teenager and gave my favorite childhood photos to old boyfriends.  The above photo was safe because it hung on the wall.

My sister Sarah, just debuted her beautiful new blog.  I asked her if I could share one of her posts.  I love all of them, but I thought this one was so creative and packed full of fun ideas for a kid’s party, or any party, for that matter!

Sarah is also an interior designer.  She uses her design skills to create beautiful parties, as you will see in this post!

On Sunday, we watched the Seahawks vs. Vikings game at my sister’s house with our typical game-day gang.  My nephew just returned to school after Christmas break, but his bestfriend, Sam, was in town and was able to hang with us.

Sam was caught texting my nephew to say, “Your Aunt thought a Field Goal was worth only 1 point!”  He was stifling an explosion of laughter.

Jon (my husband) and I spent New Year’s weekend at my mom and dad’s.  To clarify, I have two dads.  Daddy, the farmer/businessman and Dolly (Dale), my stepdad.

It feels wrong referring to Dolly as my stepdad.  We’ve never talked about it, but I know he feels the same way about calling me his stepdaughter.  Since he became my stepdad when I was 7, he has been a best friend, a sounding board, a wisdom-giver, an entertainer, a role model, an encourager and so much more.  None of my love for Dolly takes away from my love for my dad.  I am doubly blessed.

Besides being gifted in decorating, gardening, painting, sewing, hospitality, administration, and singing, my mom LOVES cooking.  She is a passionate cook and is happy as a clam spending 12 hours a day in the kitchen.  It doesn’t matter which kitchen either.  She could gleefully cook in a camper or a king’s kitchen.

Isn’t the New Year when we resolute to quit eating sugar and fried food?

My husband and I alternate holidays between our families.  This year we celebrated Thanksgiving with mine and Christmas with his.

We have fun with both of our families.  Some of our traditions are not the same, but what we do share in common is the kind of laughter that makes your smile muscles hurt, an abundance of good food and love for each other.

The day after Christmas, five of our family members departed earlier in the day.  The rest of us bundled up, walked down the hill and found a place to sled.
