Hey, Girlfriend!

❀ Making the World a Brighter Place One Friendship at a Time

Last week I realized it was time to replenish my Secret Brightening Powder by Laura Mercier.  I also wanted a happier blush color.

In order to avoid the crazy chaos of Christmas traffic and shoppers at the mall, I decided to order my make-up on-line.

It turns out Secret Brightening Powder is not a secret and neither is the blush I wanted because both were out of stock and no where to be found for quick delivery. Continue reading

During this season of festive holiday parties, my husband and I went to a Napoleon Dynamite movie night at our friends’ home.

We didn’t discuss any details in advance, other than what to drink and what time to be there.  My husband and I decided to get into the spirit by dressing up.  He did his best to look like Kip and I modeled myself after Trisha.

I told the Uber driver “we don’t normally look like this.”  He looked at me, like “okay.”  Jon (my husband) wasn’t fazed, he was as deadpan as could be!

Thankfully, when we got to their house, we could see our friends were up for fun.  This sign was next to their front door.DSC02329

Seattle and its surrounding communities have a football season tradition.  It’s called Blue Friday.  On Fridays, it seems everyplace you go, you will see Seahawks Spirit.

Last Blue Friday, I went through the drive-thru at Starbucks.  I ordered a Peppermint Mocha (so bad, but soooo GOOD!!) and a Protein Platter.  When I pulled forward to pay, I was told the car ahead “got” me!

So you know what I did?   Continue reading

Get Rid of 100 Things ~ Get rid of dead leaves and replace ugly pot with a cute pot like this one!

Last week when I wrote Get Rid of 100 Things, I showed a picture of a mauve plastic pot I was getting rid of.  The pot was not only the wrong color, but it was too short for the plant.

My thoughtful cousin gave this ornamental pepper plant to me for my birthday in August.  It originally came with pretty wrapping, covering the dark green plastic pot.

Jamison Cottage

A few days before Thanksgiving, I received a text message with some photos of Girlfriend Jami’s (of Jamison Cottage) dining room table.  She was showing me how she used the polka dot straws I bought for her.

Since I live over 3 hours away, I asked Jami to ask Girlfriend Kim Cherry, a professional photographer, to take a few photos for me.  Kim was gracious to take all of the photos featured in this post.

Get rid of 100 things ~ catologues

I remember Nate Berkus talking to Oprah about creating a beautiful home.  I am sure he said a lot great things, but what stuck with me was his nonchalant directive to get rid of 100 things today.  It’s possible he said, “get rid of 200 things” or “500 things”.

Americans traditionally celebrate Thanksgiving by preparing similar meals to this: a turkey, cranberries, stuffing, potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, yams, beets, bread, a green salad, a fruit salad and pumpkin pie.

Our family doesn’t always stick to tradition.  Whatever we prepare is delicious and special, like the lasagna pictured above.

With so much focus on food, it’s easy to forget the true meaning of the holiday.  Giving Thanks.

I am not sure when glass cloches found their way into the world of interior decorating and display.  Evidence shows they were used for gardening purposes as far back as the 1600s.

While I was typing my Paris ~ We Love You  post, a message popped up on my computer screen, warning me that my track pad’s batteries were about to die.  It didn’t occur to me that I could probably find my old mouse and give it a quick charge.  Instead, I searched, with no luck, for the spare AA batteries I keep for such emergencies.

Dressed in black velour drawstring pajama bottoms; an unflattering black adidas shirt; cream, pink and metallic gold bouclé (Chanel style) Bob’s slippers and white socks, I imagined being accosted by Stacy London of “What Not To Wear” in the parking lot of Target.  I only needed two AA batteries.  Was it worth the risk to make a run for it?
